Push for Zubeen Garg’s Wax Statue at Madame Tussauds Gains Ground

A growing campaign is calling for legendary Assamese singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg to be honored with a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in London. The initiative, led by the Rajasthan Foundation (Assam Chapter), has taken a formal step with a written proposal submitted to the museum’s London office.

Ratan Sharma, president of the foundation’s Assam wing, outlined Garg’s extensive contributions to music, social activism, and the global promotion of Assamese and Northeast Indian culture. In the letter, Sharma described Garg as “the cultural soul of Assam,” emphasizing his role in elevating regional art and inspiring youth engagement through socially conscious work.

The campaign aims to spotlight Assam’s cultural richness on an international platform. Advocates believe that a statue at Madame Tussauds would not only honor Garg’s legacy but also serve as a tribute to the diverse heritage of the Northeast.

To build public momentum, the foundation plans to launch an online petition and a coordinated social media drive. The proposal follows an earlier suggestion made on September 24 by veteran music composer Manas Robin, who expressed regret that Garg was never awarded the Padma Shri during his lifetime.

“Despite his immense contribution, we couldn’t honor him with the Padma Shri,” Robin said. “Seeing the overwhelming turnout at his funeral, I believe a statue at Madame Tussauds is a fitting tribute. I hope those in charge will take this seriously.”

The campaign continues to gather support from fans, artists, and cultural organizations across the region, reflecting a collective desire to see Zubeen Garg’s legacy recognized on the world stage.
