Nagaland MP Flags Delays, Disruptions in Key Highway Projects During NHIDCL Review Meeting

Nagaland –  Nagaland Member of Parliament S Supongmeren Jamir has voiced serious concerns over persistent delays and disruptions affecting major highway infrastructure projects in the state. The issues were raised during a high-level review meeting with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) held on October 11 at the corporation’s regional office in Kohima.

The meeting brought together NHIDCL officials, contractors, and consultants involved in the execution of critical road development works across Nagaland. MP Jamir drew particular attention to the recurring blockages along the Dimapur–Kohima four-lane highway, especially near New Chumoukedima Village, citing the hardship faced by commuters due to frequent interruptions in traffic flow.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Dimapur–Kohima stretch—part of National Highway 29—the MP noted that the project was originally slated for completion by September 25, 2025, as per timelines submitted to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). He urged NHIDCL to provide comprehensive updates on the progress of this project, along with the Kohima bypass and the Kohima–Jessami road.

Jamir emphasized the need for greater accountability and coordination among implementing agencies to ensure timely delivery of infrastructure that is vital for connectivity and economic development in the region. The meeting concluded with a call for intensified monitoring and resolution of bottlenecks affecting project execution.
