Actor Akshay Kumar used his quiz show Wheel of Fortune to deliver a strong message against racial discrimination faced by people from India’s North-East. The moment unfolded during a recent episode when a contestant spoke about her experiences of prejudice, prompting Kumar to call his makeup artist Kin, from Manipur, onto the stage.
Kin recounted how he has often been subjected to slurs such as “Chinese,” “Chinky,” and “Momo,” simply because of his appearance and origin. Visibly disturbed, Kumar told the audience that such discrimination is real and unacceptable. “They are as much Indians as I am, you are, and everyone here,” he said, urging viewers to recognize the North-East community’s equal place in the nation.
The actor highlighted the region’s contributions to the armed forces, citing the role of the Naga Regiment and sacrifices made during the Kargil and Bangladesh wars. “They have given their blood for this country. They are Indians,” Kumar declared.
The episode has drawn attention for its candid discussion of racism, with Kumar’s remarks resonating widely. His show Wheel of Fortune has already been extended from its original 40 episodes to 65, reflecting strong audience response.
Beyond television, Kumar is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Bhoot Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan and featuring Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, and Tabu. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films, the movie is slated to hit theatres on April 10, 2026.
