IAF Emergency Landing Strip in Upper Assam to Be Inaugurated by PM Modi

Dibrugarh –  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a newly built emergency landing facility for Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on February 14, officials said.

The 4.2-kilometre stretch has been developed along the four-lane highway in Moran, designed to allow military aircraft to land and operate during emergencies. Authorities described the project as a major boost to strategic preparedness and aviation infrastructure in Upper Assam.

Security arrangements have been tightened ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. On Tuesday, officials carried out an inspection of the site to review readiness for the inauguration. The review was led by Rituparna Baruah, Chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation, in the presence of Ujjwal Phukan, Deputy Mayor of Dibrugarh, and Asim Hazarika, Chairman of the Dibrugarh Development Authority.

According to officials, the landing strip will enhance the operational readiness of the IAF and strengthen emergency response capabilities in the region. The facility is expected to play a crucial role during natural disasters, defence contingencies, and strategic operations, while also reflecting the Centre’s push to integrate civilian infrastructure with national security needs.

The project is seen as further elevating Dibrugarh’s importance on the national map, combining infrastructure development with defence preparedness.
