Ankita Konwar has made history by becoming the first woman from Assam to successfully complete a full Ironman triathlon, a feat that places her among the elite endurance athletes of the world.
Konwar crossed the finish line at the Ironman Barcelona event after enduring one of the most demanding races in global sports: a 3.8-kilometer open-water swim, followed by 180 kilometers of cycling, and concluding with a full marathon of 42.2 kilometers.
Her husband, actor and fitness advocate Milind Soman, celebrated the achievement on social media, calling her performance “magic words on the magic carpet” and expressing pride in her determination and discipline. “Incredibly proud to witness this,” he wrote.
The event also marked a personal milestone for Soman, who completed his second full Ironman—ten years after his first. He finished the race more than 30 minutes faster than his previous attempt, adding, “Sixty is the new fifty,” and reaffirming his belief that “anything is possible.”
Earlier this year, the couple participated in Ironman 70.3 Estonia, where they battled freezing waters and inclement weather. Konwar completed the half-Ironman in 7 hours and 5 minutes, while Soman finished just ahead of the cutoff time.
Married since April 2018, the duo has become a symbol of fitness and perseverance in India. Their shared journey continues to inspire athletes and enthusiasts across the country, highlighting the power of partnership, resilience, and goal-setting in sport.
