Manipur – The Manipur government has directed all state employees to report for duty during the ongoing shutdown, warning that disciplinary action will be taken against those absent without authorization.
In a directive issued by the Chief Secretary’s office, Administrative Secretaries and Heads of Departments were instructed to ensure full attendance in their respective offices, including subordinate units. Deputy Commissioners across districts have also been tasked with monitoring compliance and submitting attendance reports to the concerned departments.
The order emphasizes that employees failing to attend office without sanctioned leave will face departmental proceedings. Officials underscored that uninterrupted functioning of government offices is essential to maintain administration during periods of public agitation.
The shutdown, which began on April 20, was called by the Joint Action Committee formed after the Tronglaobi incident, along with Meira Paibi groups and other civil society organisations. Protestors are demanding justice in connection with the attack and have intensified their agitation through bandhs and blockades.
By insisting on office attendance, the government aims to ensure continuity of essential services and prevent disruption of administrative work, even as public protests continue across the state.
