Guwahati, Assam – Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Guwahati on Friday afternoon, March 13, beginning a two-day tour of Assam focused on unveiling a series of major development initiatives across the state.
Officials confirmed that the Prime Minister was originally scheduled to travel to Kokrajhar earlier in the day, but persistent heavy rain forced the cancellation of that leg of the trip. Instead, Modi will virtually inaugurate projects worth more than ₹4,570 crore that had been planned for Kokrajhar.
Security was tightened across Guwahati ahead of his arrival, with senior leaders and top officials present at the airport to receive him.
During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to launch, inaugurate, and lay foundation stones for projects collectively valued at nearly ₹48,000 crore. These initiatives span infrastructure, connectivity, and energy sectors, and are aimed at boosting growth in Assam and the wider Northeast region.
Further programmes are lined up in Guwahati later on Friday, while additional project launches are scheduled in Silchar on March 14.
