MDSA Backs Jakrem SC with Financial Aid Ahead of Indian Women’s League Campaign

The district champions, who earned a spot in the national competition after winning state honours, will begin their Indian Women’s League journey later this month in Shillong.

Meghalaya:  The Mawkyrwat District Sports Association (MDSA) has extended financial assistance to Jakrem Sports Club as the Meghalaya side gears up for its campaign in the Indian Women’s League (IWL).

The support was handed over during a felicitation programme organised by the association, led by its president A.L. Mawlong, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills district. The occasion served as both a recognition of the team’s achievements and a gesture of encouragement ahead of its participation in the national tournament.

Jakrem SC secured qualification for the IWL after a successful run in domestic competitions, first lifting the District Women’s League title before emerging champions of the State Women’s Champion League.

The Meghalaya outfit has been placed in Group C of the competition, with all group-stage matches scheduled to be played at the SSA Stadium in Shillong.

Jakrem SC will open its campaign against AIFF TDS on October 25 before facing KEMP FC on October 27. The team will conclude its group-stage fixtures with a match against Mumbai Knight on October 29.

Club president Dapbor Jyrwa and other office-bearers were present during the felicitation ceremony. The club management expressed appreciation to the district sports association for its financial support and encouragement ahead of the prestigious tournament.

The representatives said the team is determined to make the most of the opportunity and showcase its potential against opponents from across the country. They also voiced confidence that the squad’s preparation, teamwork and commitment would help raise Meghalaya’s profile on the national football stage.

The financial assistance comes at a crucial stage for Jakrem SC as it prepares to test itself against stronger competition following its success at both district and state levels.
