20% Puja Bonus Released for Assam Tea Workers Ahead of Durga Puja

Guwahati, Assam: Ahead of the Durga Puja festivities, the Assam government has facilitated the payment of a 20 per cent Puja bonus to tea garden workers across the state, benefiting employees in more than 800 tea estates.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the development through a social media post, stating that the bonus has been provided in view of the festive season and is intended to support tea workers and their families as they prepare for the celebrations associated with Navratri and Durga Puja.

The announcement comes as a significant boost for thousands of workers employed in Assam’s tea sector, one of the state’s most important industries. Festival bonuses are traditionally seen as an important source of additional income for tea garden employees, helping households meet seasonal expenses and take part in cultural and religious observances.

The disbursement is expected to bring financial relief to workers while enabling them to celebrate the upcoming festival with greater enthusiasm. Durga Puja remains one of the most widely observed festivals in Assam, and bonus payments to tea garden labourers are often viewed as a key component of annual festive preparations.

Through the initiative, the state government has extended its festive outreach to the tea community, recognising the contribution of tea garden workers to Assam’s economy while ensuring that the benefits of the season reach families across the state’s tea-growing regions.
