The two-day festival in Dima Hasao will feature Bollywood singers, cultural programmes and a newly introduced beauty pageant as organisers seek to strengthen the region’s tourism appeal.
Assam: The annual Jatinga Festival is set to return to Assam’s Dima Hasao district on November 21 and 22, with organisers planning a refreshed edition that will include a change of venue, cultural showcases and performances by noted playback singers.
Hosted by the Dima Hasao Tour and Travel Committee, the festival is expected to bring together visitors from across the region through a mix of music, entertainment and cultural events aimed at promoting tourism in the hill district.
One of the major attractions this year will be live performances by Bollywood singers Kunal Ganjawala and Madhubanti Bagchi. Ganjawala is scheduled to perform on the opening day of the festival, while Bagchi will take the stage on the concluding day alongside other artistes.
In a departure from previous editions, the event will be organised at a new site located opposite the traditional festival grounds at Hayam. The shift is intended to accommodate expanded activities and provide an enhanced experience for visitors.
Adding a new dimension to the celebrations, organisers have introduced a beauty pageant titled Wings of Jatinga. The initiative is designed to offer young women from the region an opportunity to display their talents and aspirations while encouraging confidence and personal development.
Organisers said efforts are being made to improve connectivity and ease of travel for festival-goers. Travellers from Guwahati can fly to Silchar before proceeding by road to the venue. Officials are also considering additional transport arrangements to ensure smoother movement of visitors during the festival.
The event is expected to draw more tourists to Dima Hasao, giving them a chance to explore the district’s natural beauty, cultural diversity and age-old traditions.
Backed by a wider range of activities, headline music acts and several fresh additions, the festival’s organisers hope to strengthen its position as one of the prominent tourism and cultural events in the region.
