Tawang Gears Up to Host International Tourism Mart, Eyes Global Tourism Spotlight

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh: Arunachal Pradesh is stepping up preparations for the 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM), with the state aiming to showcase its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and renowned hospitality to an international audience when the event opens in Tawang later this month.

Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona reviewed arrangements for the six-day event during a meeting attended by representatives from the Union Ministry of Tourism, officials of the state tourism department and district administrations of Tawang and West Kameng.

Emphasising the significance of the tourism mart, Sona said the state must be fully prepared to welcome delegates and industry representatives from across the world. He stressed that every aspect of the event, from logistics and accommodation to transport and guest services, should be planned meticulously to ensure a seamless experience for visitors.

According to the minister, the success of the event will depend on effective coordination among government departments, local authorities and stakeholders involved in its organisation. He said the objective is not only to conduct the event smoothly but also to leave a lasting impression on guests through the warmth and hospitality for which Arunachal Pradesh is known.

The 14th edition of the International Tourism Mart, scheduled from October 27 to November 1, is being organised jointly by the Union Ministry of Tourism and the Arunachal Pradesh government. Delegates from nearly 20 countries are expected to participate.

The annual tourism mart serves as a key platform for promoting the tourism potential of the Northeastern region among domestic and international travel operators, investors, media representatives and tourism stakeholders. It facilitates business interactions, destination promotion and collaboration within the tourism sector.

For Tawang, hosting the event presents a significant opportunity to highlight its unique attractions before a global audience. The high-altitude district is widely known for its scenic mountain vistas, the iconic Tawang Monastery, Sela Pass, Nuranang Falls, pristine lakes and the vibrant traditions of the Monpa community.

The event’s return to Tawang after more than a decade is expected to provide a major boost to tourism promotion in the region. The district had previously hosted the International Tourism Mart in 2013.

Officials believe the gathering will help strengthen ties with travel industry stakeholders, create new opportunities for tourism partnerships and further position Arunachal Pradesh as one of India’s emerging tourism destinations.

Sona urged all agencies involved to work collectively to ensure the event is conducted successfully, adding that every visitor should leave with positive memories of the state’s culture, hospitality and natural beauty.
