Fresh from her gold medal-winning performance at the Asian Games, ace Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain participated in a women-centric foot patrol organised by Delhi Police in Rajouri Garden on Monday, lending her support to efforts aimed at enhancing awareness about women’s safety in the national capital.
The Olympic medallist praised the initiative, describing women’s safety as a matter of utmost importance and commending the police for conducting focused patrols across different parts of the city. She said such programmes help build confidence among women and strengthen the sense of security in public spaces.
Lovlina recently returned to India after clinching the women’s 75kg title at the Asian Games, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi in a one-sided final. The triumph was made even more memorable as it came on her 29th birthday and marked a significant step forward from the silver medal she had secured at the previous edition of the continental event.
Reflecting on the achievement, the Assam boxer said winning gold at a prestigious multi-sport event was a dream for any athlete and made the occasion particularly special. She noted that after finishing with silver in her earlier Asian Games appearance, she was determined to upgrade the medal this time and succeeded in achieving that goal.
With another major title added to her career, Lovlina has now turned her attention towards the next Olympic cycle. The former Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist said her primary focus is on qualifying for the Los Angeles Olympics and delivering a stronger performance on the sport’s biggest stage.
She acknowledged the disappointment of missing out on a podium finish at the Paris Olympics and said the experience has strengthened her resolve to return stronger. According to Lovlina, her preparations are now centred on improving every aspect of her game as she targets another Olympic medal.
The boxer also said that completing a full collection of medals at major international competitions had given her greater confidence and freedom while competing at the Asian Games. Entering the tournament without undue pressure allowed her to focus entirely on performance and make the most of the opportunity.
Looking ahead, Lovlina identified the upcoming World Championships as a crucial milestone on the road to Olympic qualification. She said her immediate objective is to perform strongly at the global event as she continues her pursuit of a place at the Los Angeles Games.
Having once again underlined her credentials on the international stage, Lovlina now balances her role as one of India’s leading sporting icons with efforts to support social causes, including initiatives promoting women’s safety and empowerment.
