Tripura – Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has alleged serious financial and administrative lapses in the Tipra Motha Party-led Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), warning that the state government may publicly disclose details of what he termed “unethical practices” within the council.
Speaking to reporters at Khumulwng, the council’s headquarters, Saha claimed that retired employees had not received their pensions due to poor financial management. He clarified that pension payments are not directly funded by the Centre or the state, but depend on how the council allocates its resources. According to him, the delays stem from financial indiscipline rather than a lack of external support.
The chief minister also criticised the council for failing to conduct elections to Village Committees (VCs). Elections to 587 committees, originally scheduled for February 2021, remain pending. Saha alleged that the council did not adhere to statutory requirements after reorganising village committees, adding that the prolonged delay has hindered welfare activities.
On broader political issues, Saha rejected Tipra Motha’s claims of resolving the Reang refugee crisis, stressing that rehabilitation efforts were the result of sustained work over two decades. He also dismissed assertions that the party facilitated the return of surrendered militants from the NLFT and ATTF, stating that his government had overseen these initiatives. The Centre, he noted, has sanctioned ₹250 crore for the rehabilitation of surrendered militants under a peace agreement.
In a separate announcement, Saha said that 413 individuals from various political backgrounds had joined the BJP-IPFT alliance, strengthening the ruling coalition’s base in the state.
