The aircraft is believed to have taken off from Jorhat before the incident, which has unsettled residents in nearby villages.
Local accounts suggest the suspected crash occurred in a remote hilly stretch near Nilip Block under Chokihola. Around 7 p.m., villagers reported hearing a powerful blast that echoed through the surrounding terrain. The sound, described as unusually loud, sparked panic in the settlements, with some residents claiming they saw smoke rising from the hills shortly afterward.
Though sources have indicated the aircraft involved was likely a Sukhoi-30, officials have not yet issued a formal confirmation. The suspected site lies deep inside forested mountains, far from habitation, complicating immediate access.
