Sikkim – Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated Hamro Gauley Bazar, a farmer-focused organic market at Reshithang in the Upper Burtuk constituency, providing local growers with a direct platform to sell their produce.
The market was established entirely through voluntary contributions under the Shram Daan initiative, requiring no government expenditure. The launch event was attended by Upper Burtuk MLA Kala Rai and community representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Tamang lauded the collective effort of villagers in setting up the market and outlined plans to develop it into a hub of rural economic activity. He emphasized the need for verification mechanisms to ensure stallholders are genuine agricultural landowners.
Operating twice a week, the market will offer fresh organic produce to residents and visitors. Tamang also directed the Tourism Department to list the site as a tourist attraction, highlighting its potential to showcase local cuisine and community-driven development.
Officials described Hamro Gauley Bazar as a model of sustainable, community-led growth, reinforcing Sikkim’s reputation as India’s first fully organic state and its commitment to rural entrepreneurship.
