PM Modi Extends Statehood Day Greetings to Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 20 conveyed warm wishes to the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram as both northeastern states marked their Statehood Day, praising their cultural richness, natural beauty, and contributions to national progress.

In his message, the Prime Minister described Arunachal Pradesh as a “shining example of harmony between tradition and nature,” highlighting its diverse tribal heritage and the industrious spirit of its citizens. He noted that the state’s landscapes and cultural diversity embody India’s unity in diversity, and expressed confidence that Arunachal would continue to achieve new milestones in development.

Arunachal Pradesh, often called the “Land of the Rising Sun,” shares borders with Bhutan, China, and Myanmar, underscoring its strategic importance. The state evolved from the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) into a Union Territory in 1972 before attaining full statehood on February 20, 1987.

Extending greetings to Mizoram, Modi lauded its strong community spirit and enduring traditions. He said the state is widely admired for its scenic beauty and cultural vibrancy, adding that the “rich Mizo heritage, expressed through music, tradition, and everyday life, is inspiring.” He wished the people of Mizoram continued progress and prosperity.

Mizoram became India’s 23rd state on February 20, 1987, following its transition from Union Territory status. The day is observed annually to commemorate its formal recognition as a full-fledged state within the Indian Union.

The Prime Minister’s greetings underscored the strategic and cultural significance of both states, while reaffirming their role in strengthening India’s unity and development.
