Assam – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has set March 10 as the deadline to conclude seat-sharing talks within the National Democratic Alliance ahead of the state Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters in Guwahati on February 26, Sarma said negotiations with two regional allies are still underway but nearing completion.
He explained that discussions with the Bodoland People’s Front would be wrapped up within a couple of days, while talks with the Asom Gana Parishad are expected to finish by March 9 or 10. “We hope everything will be finalised by then and we will be able to announce the alliance by March 10,” the Chief Minister said.
The announcement comes only days after Sarma had indicated that the seat-sharing arrangement was already settled. His latest remarks suggest that while the framework of the pact is in place, the finer details are still being worked out with key partners. Once the agreements are sealed, a formal declaration of the NDA alliance in Assam is expected.
