Manipur – Manipur Police, in coordination with security forces, intensified their crackdown on illegal weapons with two separate operations in Imphal East district on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
In the first operation under Porompat Police Station, two men were taken into custody from their residences. The accused were identified as Thingujam Suresh Singh (40), also known as Bimol or Ibohanbi, originally from Sekmaijin Khunou in Kakching district and currently residing at Khurai Tongbram Leirak, and Moirangthem Dayamoi (39) of Khurai Soibam Leikai in Imphal East.
Police recovered a .32 pistol with a loaded magazine, a BAOFENG wireless communication set with charger, two mobile phones, and an Aadhaar card. Officials said the items point to possible involvement in unlawful activities, and further investigation is underway.
In a separate operation the same day, security forces arrested two alleged arms smugglers from Keibi Awang Leikai Yaibirel under Sagolmang Police Station. The accused were identified as Lisham Naoba Singh (38), also known as Leichin, of Uyumpok Mamang Leikai, and Laishram Chingkhei Meitei (23), also known as Thouba, of Sugnu Tangjeng Bazar.
From their possession, authorities seized 110 rounds of 5.56×45 mm live ammunition along with two mobile phones. Police believe the ammunition was meant for illegal circulation, posing a serious threat to public safety.
Officials confirmed that both operations form part of a broader drive to curb the spread of illegal arms in Manipur, which has long been a concern for law enforcement agencies.
