Manipur CM Escorts Injured MLA to Delhi for Advanced Treatment

Manipur – Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh personally oversaw the evacuation of Kuki-Zo legislator Vungzagin Valte to New Delhi on February 8, arranging for his transfer to Medanta – The Medicity Hospital in Gurugram for advanced medical care.

Valte, the Thanlon MLA, had suffered severe injuries during the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023. After undergoing prolonged treatment in Delhi, he had been recuperating in Churachandpur. His condition worsened on February 7, prompting his admission to the Intensive Care Unit at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital.

Officials said the Chief Minister monitored Valte’s health through the night and dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance with a medical team from Imphal to Churachandpur around midnight. Doctors in Imphal coordinated with the hospital team via tele-conferencing to stabilise the MLA.

Once his condition improved slightly, Singh arranged for an air ambulance to shift Valte to Delhi. Around 3:00 pm on February 8, the MLA was moved from Churachandpur Medical College Hospital, accompanied by the district’s Deputy Commissioner. BJP legislators Tongbram Robindro Singh and Sanasam Premchandra Singh escorted him to Imphal Airport.

At the airport, Chief Minister Singh met Valte and his family, offering words of encouragement. “Pu Valte, please come back after you have fully recovered. I will wait for your return,” he said.

The air ambulance departed Imphal Airport at approximately 4:30 pm, carrying Valte to Delhi for specialised treatment.
