Meghalaya – A Khasi-language feature, Ha Lyngkha Bneng, has brought international acclaim to Meghalaya’s film industry, securing prestigious awards overseas before its celebratory screening in Guwahati.
Directed by Pradip Kurbah and supported by the state-backed OTT platform Hello Meghalaya, the film explores the lives of six individuals in rural Meghalaya. Through their struggles, aspirations, and shifting relationships, the story presents an unfiltered Khasi perspective that has resonated with audiences far beyond the region.
The film’s Guwahati premiere at Kelvin Gold Cinema drew prominent filmmakers and cultural figures from across the Northeast, marking a proud homecoming after a string of successes in late 2025. In November, Ha Lyngkha Bneng won the Golden St. George and other top honours at the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival. It later earned the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the Moscow International Film Festival, further elevating hopes for emerging talent from Meghalaya and the wider Northeast.
Hello Meghalaya, which funds and promotes local productions, has played a pivotal role in bringing authentic regional stories to larger audiences. By offering financial backing, marketing support, and technical resources, the platform is helping build a sustainable film ecosystem and spotlighting the cultural richness of the Northeast on the global stage.
