Meghalaya’s Kew pineapples are all set to make a big impact nationwide.
In a major boost to Meghalaya’s agricultural sector, a new partnership is set to bring the state’s renowned Kew pineapples to consumers across India and beyond. Mother India Farms, a Bengaluru-based company, has entered into a strategic agreement with Tomonpo Anglong Organic Farmers Producer Company, a collective of farmers in Ri-Bhoi district.
This collaboration aims to empower nearly 300 registered farmers from six villages by enhancing their income and expanding the reach of Meghalaya’s certified organic produce. Mother India Farms will take charge of implementing a comprehensive internal control system, covering training, inspections, data management, and facilitation of organic certification. The company will also oversee procurement and marketing, offering organic price premiums to farmers based on market trends and produce quality.
Agriculture Department Secretary Vijay Kumar D expressed strong support for the initiative, stating, “We are happy to support this partnership. Our goal is to enhance the income of farmers and take Meghalaya’s certified organic produce to the global market.”
Seen as a step forward in promoting sustainable rural development, the partnership is expected to not only strengthen the state’s farming economy but also position Meghalaya’s premium Kew pineapples prominently in national and international markets.
