Dibang, Arunachal Pradesh – Gujarat Tourists Face Legal Action After Resort Clash in Arunachal Pradesh.Police in Arunachal Pradesh’s Dibang Valley are investigating four tourists from Gujarat after staff at Mishmi Hills Resort in Anini accused them of abusive behaviour, threats, and property damage during their stay earlier this month.
The family checked in on February 18, but tensions escalated two days later when staff reminded them of the resort’s policy prohibiting outside food and alcohol. According to the complaint, the guests had brought liquor onto the premises and reacted aggressively when confronted. Video clips of the confrontation later circulated online, showing two members of the group verbally abusing employees.
Allegations in the FIR
An FIR filed at Anini police station names Aastha Devendra Kumar Patel, Dhruv Devendra Kumar Patel, Smita Devendra Kumar Patel, and Devendra Kumar Patel. The complaint alleges that Aastha and Dhruv Patel used obscene and sexually offensive language toward female staff, while Dhruv Patel attempted to physically assault an employee. The group is also accused of damaging property and threatening to use “influential connections” to harm the resort’s reputation.
Police confirmed that charges have been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including assault, criminal intimidation, and obscene acts. Sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have also been invoked.
Resort’s Public Statement
The resort management issued a statement on Instagram, expressing regret over the incident and sharing video evidence. The post described the guests’ conduct as “deeply disrespectful,” alleging they used racist language and attempted to intimidate staff by claiming ties to prominent corporate figures.
Managing Director Chimi Linggi said she intervened personally after being alerted. She noted that the district tourism officer was present during efforts to calm the situation, but the guests continued to lash out. “Our young staff, many from interior areas, were shaken by the incident,” Linggi said, adding that while the resort prides itself on welcoming visitors from across India and abroad, such behaviour could not be ignored.
Latest Developments
In recent days, resort chairman Rezina Mihu has alleged that the accused tourists attempted to pressure him into withdrawing the complaint after the video went viral. Police have confirmed that the FIR remains in place and the investigation is ongoing.
Dibang Valley Superintendent of Police Ringu N said officers visited the resort after the footage surfaced. He noted that the tourists had already checked out on February 21, but the case continues to be pursued.
The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with strong criticism of the tourists’ behaviour and support expressed for the resort staff.
