Eight Arrested in Killing of ACHIK Member in West Garo Hills

Meghalaya –  Police in West Garo Hills have arrested eight individuals in connection with the killing of an ACHIK organisation member, who succumbed to injuries after being assaulted at Goalgoan under Rajabala Police Station.

Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma confirmed that the arrests were made over the past week after suspects were traced across different parts of Meghalaya and Assam. The case has been registered as Rajabala Police Station Case No. 01/26.

The victim, Dilseng M. Sangma, a resident of Amokgre in Phulbari, was attacked around 2 pm on Friday by unidentified assailants. He was initially taken to Bhaitbari Community Health Centre and later referred to Tura Civil Hospital, but died while being shifted for further treatment.

Those arrested have been identified as Anarul Islam (30), Rafiqul Islam (47), Atowar Hussain (40), Ariful Islam (30), Ashadur Sk. (21), Mozidur Hussain (22), Mofidur Hussain (33), and Mozahidur Rahman (22).

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by R.A. Sangma, SDPO Dadenggre, has been constituted to probe the case. The SP assured that all those involved will be brought to justice and said efforts are underway to apprehend any remaining suspects.

Police have appealed to the public to share information related to the incident or suspicious activities with investigators or the nearest police unit. Contact numbers for the Police Control Room in Tura have also been circulated.

Authorities have urged residents to maintain peace, avoid rumours, and refrain from spreading unverified content on social media, stressing the importance of responsible behaviour during the ongoing investigation.
