CM Khandu Pushes Preventive Healthcare as Arunachal Scales Up Organ Transplant Aid

Arunachal : Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced that the state-run Chief Minister Organ Transplant Scheme (CMOTS) has facilitated over 200 kidney transplants in the past seven years, giving patients a new lease on life. Building on this success, the state is enhancing its healthcare system with increased financial support for organ transplants. Under the updated CMOTS, financial assistance has been increased to ₹10 lakh for kidney transplants, ₹15 lakh for bone marrow transplants, and ₹20 lakh for liver transplants.

Khandu underscored the importance of transitioning the state’s healthcare strategy from reactive treatment to proactive wellness. He urged communities to embrace preventive practices through education and lifestyle changes, adding, “Real progress means fewer people falling sick — prevention must become our priority.”

Additionally, the government has allocated ₹369 crore for the health sector in the 2025–26 budget, focusing on enhancing healthcare services. A key initiative is the Chief Minister Organ Transplant Scheme (CMOTS), which aims to boost kidney transplant capabilities at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun. To achieve this, TRIHMS is partnering with the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. PGIMER will provide comprehensive support, including technical expertise, training, and long-term collaboration to strengthen TRIHMS’ transplant capabilities. CMOTS offers financial aid for various transplants, including ₹10 lakh for kidney transplants, ₹15 lakh for bone marrow transplants, and ₹20 lakh for liver transplants. The state government is working with partners to raise awareness about organ donation and promote community wellness, emphasizing prevention over treatment.
