Assamese Film ‘Adi Shakti’ Wins Big at Global Cine Confluence

Assam –   Assamese cinema earned international recognition as the feature film Adi Shakti bagged three major awards at the Global Cine Confluence – Delhi Film Convention & Summit 2026, held recently in the national capital.

The film was among the standout entries at the combined celebration of the 18th Jaipur International Film Festival, the 9th New Delhi Film Festival, and the Global Cine Confluence. Together, these platforms created one of the country’s largest international film gatherings, drawing filmmakers, critics, scholars, and audiences from across the world.

Over three days of screenings and discussions at Bharat Mandapam and the India International Centre, the festival showcased more than 600 films in competition, selected from over 4,000 entries representing 60 countries. Delegates included more than 1,000 participants ranging from industry professionals to students, making the event a vibrant hub of cultural exchange.

Adi Shakti secured the award for Best Feature Film, while Indraani Baruah was honoured for Best Original Story. Arshia Mahanta received recognition as Best Debutante Actress. The film tells the story of a young woman who challenges patriarchal dominance and confronts entrenched social dogmas with courage and conviction.

Festival organisers noted that the film’s success marks a significant achievement for Assamese cinema, spotlighting regional storytelling on a national and international stage. With participation from countries including the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, the United States, Japan, Pakistan, the UAE, and Bahrain, the event underscored the diversity of global cinema while celebrating India’s regional voices.
