Assam Rifles Foil Cigarette Smuggling Attempt in Manipur, Seize ₹2.9 Crore Worth Contraband

Manipur –  Security forces in Manipur intercepted a large consignment of smuggled cigarettes valued at approximately ₹2.9 crore, arresting two individuals in connection with the case.

The operation was carried out by Assam Rifles personnel on February 15 in Noney district. Acting on intelligence inputs, troops set up a mobile checkpoint along State Highway-06. During the inspection, a vehicle traveling from Churachandpur towards Kangpokpi was stopped and searched.

Officials reported that the search led to the recovery of 23 cartons of Gudang Garam cigarettes and 65 cartons of Mond Variance cigarettes concealed inside the vehicle. Both the seized goods and the vehicle have been handed over to local authorities for further investigation.

The two suspects taken into custody are currently under police interrogation. Assam Rifles stated that the operation underscores their continuing efforts to dismantle smuggling networks that exploit Manipur’s highway routes to transport contraband across the state.
