Assam CM Launches ₹300 Crore Projects in Bodoland

Assam – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 13 unveiled a series of development initiatives worth more than ₹300 crore across the Bodoland Territorial Region, underscoring the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure, governance, and cultural heritage.

At Udalguri, Sarma laid the foundation stone for a ₹150‑crore Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) mini‑secretariat. Planned as a five‑storey complex spread over 25 bighas, the facility will accommodate multiple council departments, a legislative assembly building, a conference hall, guest house, staff quarters, internal roads, and parking. The chief minister described it as a “state‑of‑the‑art facility” that will centralise administrative functions and improve service delivery in the region.

Another major project announced was a ₹63.45‑crore railway flyover at Golma Chowk–Mission Chariali Road in Udalguri. Designed to ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time, the flyover is also expected to boost socio‑economic activity in the district. Sarma added that a badminton facility would be constructed beneath the structure to make effective use of public space.

The chief minister also inaugurated, through virtual mode, the ₹36‑crore Tangla Town Water Supply Project (Phases I and II), which he said would provide safe and reliable drinking water to residents. In addition, under a state scheme for women entrepreneurs, financial assistance of ₹10,000 each was distributed to 26,988 women in the Tangla Assembly constituency. Sarma noted that Tangla is the 114th constituency to be covered under the initiative, calling it a step towards “dignity and self‑reliance of women power.”

Earlier in Kokrajhar, Sarma attended the 11th annual Sonkosh Kherai Festival and the 12th annual session of the Dularai Gudi Bathou Afad. On the occasion, he laid the foundation stone for the Sonkosh Kherai complex infrastructure project, estimated at ₹50 crore, which he said reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions while promoting regional development.
