Aizawl International Half Marathon to Feature Runners from Five Nations

Mizoram – The Aizawl International Half Marathon is set to return with a stronger global presence this year, drawing athletes from five countries for its second edition on February 14. Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar announced that more than 20 professional runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, England, and France have confirmed participation.

Organised by the state sports department in collaboration with Innovations India, the event builds on the success of its inaugural edition held in April 2025, which saw around 1,500 runners from across India. This year’s race is being scaled up significantly, both in terms of participation and international profile.

Hmar said the state government is working closely with central authorities to secure Protected Area Permits (PAP) to facilitate the entry of foreign athletes into Mizoram. He emphasised that the marathon is not only a sporting competition but also an opportunity to showcase Mizoram’s culture and traditions to visiting athletes and spectators.

“The marathon is about more than just running. It is a celebration of fitness and a chance for the world to experience the lifestyle and heritage of the Mizo people,” Hmar remarked.

With elite athletes from renowned distance-running nations joining the field, the Aizawl International Half Marathon is expected to further establish Mizoram as a destination for global sporting events while promoting health and fitness among its residents.
