Assam – A group of armed robbers stormed a residential apartment in Ganeshpara, Guwahati, late Sunday night, assaulting a woman at gunpoint and escaping with cash, jewellery, and valuables in a daring heist that has left residents shaken.
The incident took place at the Snehsraya apartment complex under Fatasil Ambari Police Station. The gang targeted the home of businessman Anil Deka, striking when he was away from the city to drop his daughter abroad.
According to police accounts, four masked men arrived in a white Swift Dzire and forced their way into the residence. Armed with pistols and daggers, they overpowered Deka’s wife, Karabi Deka, and the family’s driver. Karabi was subjected to physical assault, with one of the assailants allegedly pressing a firearm into her mouth while others threatened her with sharp weapons.
The robbers carried out the operation in under 40 minutes before fleeing with valuables. Investigators suspect the gang had prior knowledge of the businessman’s absence and planned the strike accordingly.
CCTV cameras installed in the apartment complex captured the sequence of events, providing police with vital leads. Officers reached the spot soon after receiving information and have launched a probe to track down the culprits.
The brazen attack has sparked fear among residents of Ganeshpara, raising concerns about safety and security in the city’s residential neighbourhoods.
