Meghalaya – A late-night road accident in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills claimed the life of a woman and left three others injured when a coal-laden truck overturned along National Highway 6 on March 5.
Police said the vehicle was travelling from Khliehriat towards Lumshnong when the driver lost control near Byrdih village. The truck skidded off the highway and toppled into a low-lying area on the roadside.
Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa confirmed that all four occupants of the truck sustained injuries and were rushed to Khliehriat Civil Hospital. One of the victims, a woman, later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Authorities have registered a case in connection with the incident and stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. The matter will be probed under the provisions of the Standard Operating Procedure for road accidents.
