Guwahati, Assam – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Assam on March 13 and 14 to unveil a series of development initiatives and hand over land rights certificates to tea garden workers, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
During the two‑day tour, Modi is expected to dedicate projects worth nearly ₹10,000 crore. His programme begins in Kokrajhar, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple schemes. Later that day, he will attend an event in Guwahati and release an instalment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM‑KISAN) scheme.
A major highlight of the visit will be the formal distribution of land pattas to members of the tea garden community. Sarma said the Prime Minister will personally hand over the first certificate, marking the start of a state‑wide initiative to provide land ownership to families who have lived in Assam’s tea estates for nearly two centuries without formal titles.
On March 14, Modi will travel to Silchar to lay the foundation stone for the Silchar–Shillong–Guwahati Express Highway, a project estimated at ₹22,000 crore. He will also dedicate the 150 MW Kopili Hydro Power Project to the nation. Public meetings are scheduled in Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar during the visit.
The state will see another high‑profile arrival immediately after. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to visit Guwahati on March 15 to inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and address the Yuva Sankalp Samavesh, a BJP youth gathering expected to draw around one lakh participants at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara.
These visits come as the BJP‑led government in Assam gears up for the 2026 assembly elections, where the party is seeking a third consecutive term.
