Modi unveils Kokrajhar development push, launches new Northeast train routes virtually

Guwahati, Assam – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday rolled out a package of infrastructure projects for Assam’s Kokrajhar district and flagged off three train services aimed at improving connectivity across the Northeast.

The Prime Minister had planned to attend a public gathering at Green Field, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar, but heavy rain forced a change of schedule. Instead, he joined the programme virtually from Guwahati.

The new train services include the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express, and the Narangi–Agartala Express. Officials said the routes will ease travel for passengers and strengthen links between the Northeast and other regions of India.

Modi highlighted the government’s focus on accelerating infrastructure growth in the region, stressing that better transport networks will open up economic opportunities and foster closer integration with the rest of the country. The Kokrajhar projects, valued at more than ₹4,500 crore, are part of a wider effort to modernize roads and railways across Assam and neighboring states
