Guwahati, Assam – The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on March 10 approved a series of measures that blend cultural recognition with infrastructure development. Among the decisions was the allotment of 10 bighas of land for the “Zubeen Garg Samadhi Kshetra,” a memorial dedicated to the late singer whose music and cultural influence shaped generations in the state. The site will be managed by the Department of Cultural Affairs.

In a move acknowledging indigenous traditions, the government declared Ali‑Aye‑Ligang, the harvest festival of the Mising community, as an official state holiday. The decision is being seen as a significant recognition of the cultural heritage of one of Assam’s prominent communities.
Separately, the Chief Minister presented an appointment letter for a Grade‑III post in the Revenue Department to Upasana Bokolial Gogoi, wife of noted folk artist Rajib Sadiya. The letter was handed over at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati.
The decisions reflect the government’s twin priorities: strengthening urban infrastructure while extending recognition to cultural icons and indigenous traditions across Assam.
