Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh: An Assam Rifles personnel was killed after a patrol team came under attack near the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The incident occurred around 6.30 am in the Nampong area, where Assam Rifles personnel were carrying out routine patrolling duties near a stretch of the international border currently undergoing fencing work. The attack reportedly took place near Nampong Nallah under the Nampong Circle.
According to preliminary reports, suspected cadres of the NSCN-K (Yung Aung faction) are believed to be behind the assault. Security agencies are investigating the incident and working to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the attack.
The slain soldier has been identified as Havildar Jankhokai Kuki, 42. His death has been described as a significant loss to the force, which has been actively engaged in safeguarding the sensitive border region.
Following the attack, security forces launched intensive search and combing operations in the surrounding areas to trace those responsible and prevent any further militant activity. Additional security measures have also been put in place as a precautionary step.
The incident comes at a time when security agencies are maintaining heightened vigilance along the India-Myanmar border, where infrastructure and border-fencing projects are underway to strengthen surveillance and curb cross-border movement.
Officials said investigations are continuing, and more details are expected to emerge as operations in the area progress.
