Assam Launches Online Homestay Registration Through SewaSetu Portal

Assam: In a move aimed at strengthening the state’s tourism infrastructure, the Assam government has introduced an online registration system for homestays through the SewaSetu portal, making it easier for property owners to enrol their establishments and reach a wider audience of travellers.

The new facility was launched by Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog during the state-level World Tourism Day celebrations held in Umrangso of Dima Hasao district on Sunday. The initiative is expected to streamline the registration process and encourage greater participation from homestay operators across Assam.

Speaking on the occasion, Neog said the digital platform would help registered homestays gain better visibility among tourists while also enabling online booking facilities. The system is expected to create a structured database of homestay accommodations, improving access to reliable lodging options for visitors exploring different parts of the state.

Highlighting the growing role of technology in tourism promotion, the minister said digital services can enhance visitor experiences and assist tourism stakeholders in expanding their reach.

During the programme, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa unveiled the official tourism website of the hill district, visitdimahasao.com. Designed as a comprehensive information portal, the website offers details on tourist attractions, accommodation facilities, homestays, restaurants and travel routes throughout the district.

The portal also provides weather-related information to help travellers plan their visits more effectively. In addition, it incorporates artificial intelligence-based features intended to deliver updated information on tourism destinations and services available in Dima Hasao.

The event was attended by Haflong MLA Rupali Langthasa, Tourism Commissioner and Secretary Diganta Bora, senior officials of the Tourism Department and other dignitaries.

The latest initiatives form part of the state’s broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism, improve digital accessibility and showcase Assam’s diverse travel destinations to visitors from across the country and beyond.
