Dr. Shekhar Suman Bora, a young researcher from Assam, has earned international acclaim after receiving the University Innovator Award at the 2026 Texas Innovation Conference & Awards in the United States.
The recognition, presented in Dallas–Fort Worth, celebrates scientists whose work drives technological breakthroughs with practical applications. Dr. Bora, currently a research scientist at the University of Texas, was honoured for his pioneering contributions in fields such as microelectronics, UAV-based sensing, artificial intelligence, and low-power intelligent systems. His research places particular emphasis on integrating AI into agriculture to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the achievement on April 26, describing it as a proud moment for both the state and the nation. In a message shared online, Sarma noted that Bora’s success underscores the growing impact of Indian researchers on the global stage of advanced science and innovation.
Before moving to the United States, Dr. Bora worked at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), one of India’s leading scientific institutions. His journey from Tezpur to international recognition highlights the expanding presence of Assamese scientists in global research and innovation.
The Texas Innovation Conference brought together leading minds from across disciplines to showcase advancements in emerging technologies. Bora’s award is being seen as a milestone not only for Assam but also for India’s growing reputation in cutting-edge scientific research.
